This is Day 2 of my 40 day Lenten Blog.

Like all stories our story has a beginning.

In the beginning was the Word, the Logos, the source of all order and wisdom. The Word was with God and the Word was God. All of creation was created through Him and by Him. And it was good. So very good.

All of creation burst forth from the Word of God. In a flash of incredible light, the firmament erupted with stars and galaxies. The heavens sang of the majesty of God as the void of darkness was filled with rapturous beauty and light.

The planets hurtled through space and around the stars and each came to rest exactly where God intended. And one in particular was formed by God with a special love. It seemed an insignificant rock, circling an insignificant star at the edge of one of a hundred billion galaxies. On the outside there was nothing particularly special about Earth. But God nearly always chooses the small, the weak, the insignificant, and the overlooked to raise up by His own glory. And it was no different with Earth.

For His own purposes God chose our small world to be the center of all creation. No, we are not located at the center of the universe. Far from it. No, the planets and the stars do not revolve around us. We revolve around the sun and the sun travels around the galaxy as any school child can tell you. But it is on our small and seemingly insignificant planet where God chose to place the pinnacle of His creation, and to stage the greatest drama of all time--The Drama of Salvation. But this is not simply a drama for our salvation, but a drama for the salvation of all creation. And we, the fragile and frail creatures of Earth who are weak and insignificant beyond our own comprehension, not only get to witness this great drama, but are blessed beyond measure to actually participate in it.

But our drama does not begin on Earth. It actually begins up in the heavens with a heavenly creature that is vastly stronger and more powerful than any of us. He was so mighty, in fact, that he refused to serve, and instead challenged the power and authority of God Himself.
